Critical Times Fishbones Hen House Sessions Movie Trailer

December 27, 2009 - 2:59 pm 1 Comment

n 2001, the legendary, influential and voraciously eclectic band Fishbone arrived to record their newest material at the Hen House, a free community recording studio – fully wired for digital sound and video. The only rule: leave your shoes at the door. What commenced was an in-depth look at a veteran musical group during its sometimes painful reincarnation phase. Primarily thought of as an almost religious experience – the brutally joyous live shows of the band have been long known – what is less understood is the source of this inspired madness. my recycled material hen house chicken coop cost $25.00

December 7, 2009 - 3:06 pm 2 Comments

I built this chicken coop using 2 interior doors and scrap wood from a local construction job. The siding was a freebie from craigslist, and the two windows were scavenged from the dump. All in all the only thing I needed to buy was a 12 foot 2×4, hinges for the windows, some chicken wire, and some foam insulation for all the gaps. The roost was made from a closet rod. I have since recieved a 12 foot by 12 by 12 by 8 by 8 six foot tall dog pen for free to give them a large area to run when they are locked in. I let them free range when I’m home but due to some dog attacks I keep them in the pen otherwise. The sliding door is not on any tracks it just slides freely and has been working ok for about a year. This coop holds my 8 hens in comfort, and was intentionally left on the small side for the cold New Hampshire winters, so they could stay warm with their body heat. The drop light seen had been used on the very cold nights and was on a timer during the short winter days, so they would still produce eggs, but they keep pecking the bulb out, so I will need to think up something better for next winter.
Thanks for looking at my first youtube vid.

Hen House Automatic Pop hole Door Opener

November 30, 2009 - 4:36 am No Comments

This unit that I designed and built uses a PIC16F684 micro, 3 AAA batteries, a solar cell array and a motor to automatically open the chicken house door every morning. “Morning” is detected when at least 30 minutes of dark is followed by at least 30 minutes of light, this is important to avoid false triggering due to torches, headlights, shadows etc.

The software also gives the motor a little 100mS “jiggle” every 30 minutes to reduce the possibility of ice causing a major jam.

Micro stays asleep for most of the time, and only wakes up every 2 seconds (due to a watchdog) and counts the number of wakeups to ensure that a light sample is taken every 4 minutes. Only a continuous sequence of 8 light or 8 dark readings will set or clear a day/night flag. Current consumption is around 10uA most of the time, and then around 500mA for 4 seconds during the motor operation. The door is opened until the limit switch is reached.

2 buttons (on the right hand side of the enclosure) allow for manual opening and closing. Any press of the buttons causes the PIC to come out of sleep immediately, ensuring instant reaction to button presses.

The door is opened by the motor and a simple pulley wheel with fishing line attached to the door. The door can’t be closed automatically, so it must be done manually while pressing the “close” button to unwind the pulley while the door is slid across by hand. The motor has a built in 300:1 gearbox to ensure high torque and low speed.

If the automatic opening function fails to reach the limit switch within 8 seconds, the motor is switched off anyway and the LED gives a “blink-blink-blink…….blink-blink-blink…..” to warn the owner of a jam. Any button press resets that condition.

The solar cells provide enough energy for several openings per day, so should be fine for the expected 1 op per day!

Enclosure is an IP67 rated box with a transparent lid. The only “breach” of the enclosure is a 0.5mm hole for the 0.4mm fishing line to exit.

All electronics and solar cells are sprayed with conformal coating, so a little damp shouldn’t be a problem.

Terran vs. Zerg Epic : Lomo’s Wraithes vs. Kwanro’s Mutalisks switch

November 26, 2009 - 3:59 pm 25 Comments

Game 1 : 07 June, 2008

▷ 2set Round 16 of Group G on Arena MSL 2008

Lomo[fOu] vs. Kwanro[saM] @ Colosseum 1.0

◈ Kwanro was defeated in the set 1. Well, this match is one of the most wonderful aerialist that Lomo’s wraith micro made us shudder to think of whats surprising. Also, it is certain that Lomo made the spark needed to remind you of BoxeR who made an early stage of Wraith micro. We can say that “Lomo, your trademark is a secret weapon of your own Wraith”. We all know that Kwanro got into a panic after his workers were all but annihilated. Too bad Kwanro’s fighters to be cooped up around his headquarters as it’s like being in the hen house. Kwanro desire to up the round 8 was frustrated by Lomo’s wraiths.

Game 2 : 14 May, 2009

▷ 5set Round 48 of Group 9 on Avalon MSL Survivor Tournament 2009

Lomo[fOu] vs. Kwanro[saM] @ Destination

◈ Will Kwanro go to first base of the round 36 of Avalon MSL 2009? We all know that Lomo’s coin has been downside up because his first advance to the attack was absolutely useless after his whole regiment was annihilated by Kwanro’s Mutalisks, 4 tanks down, a lot of marines and medics dying. Kwanro’s Mutalisk switch was absolutely a key for to win that game because he seemed to be almost dead after so many drones were killed by one-shot and one-kill.

Kwanro said “I’m free of Lomo’s wraith harassment, but I would pressure your first expansion located in your front door as well as your bunker to be taken out “. And then, Lomo replied “first, catch a ton of my Wraiths if you can, and I keep bugging you to give up as long as your drones are born.

His Wraiths went pretty well and killed Kwanro’s workers a lot, but Kwanro knocked him out at one shot (a strong combination of Hydras + Mutalisks).

Ray of The Wine’s blend of Persian, Moroccan, African, Indian and Western music is at once earthy, mystical and seductive, as traditional rigor meets improvisational freedom and complex, passionate melodies couple with relentless grooves. Reza is a master of traditional Persian stringed instruments like the Tar, Sehtar and the bowed Tarmanche and Kamanche, as well as the bamboo flute known as the Ney and the Daf, a hand drum. The CD was produced by The Door’s drummer John Densmore, who also played drums, and features a stellar international ensemble of players. The group recently performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

* This singer, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist was born and raised in Iran but has lived in New York for more than two decades

* He has collaborated with such artists as John Densmore of The Doors, Madonna, Branford Marsalis, poet-philosopher Robert Bly, author Deepak Chopra and choreographer Bill T. Jones, among many others

* RAY OF THE WINE was produced by Densmore, who also played drums, and features a stellar international ensemble of players

* A virtuoso of classical Persian music, Reza asked legendary “Doors” drummer John Densmore to arrange his music to span East and West, combining global and devotional styles with jazz, rock and other modern forms.
