Based in Southern California, Boom Shaka is keeping roots reggae music alive and well. Founded way back in 1986 by singer/songwriter Trevy Felix, Boom Shaka has developed a serious following over the years. They have toured the world and have released a series of albums since their inception.
Trevy Felix is the lead singer and plays guitar. He is accompanied by his brother Bass-I on bass, Lester Fari on lead guitar, Shaka Man on drums and Little George on keyboards.
Boom Shaka’s music is incredible. They have great lyrics, heavy bass lines, sweet guitar licks and beautiful harmonies. If you thought that all the best reggae music was recorded in the 1970′s, then you haven’t heard this group. Boom Shaka will blow your mind.

Shotgun No Challenge is a young band with a lot of talent. Still in high school, these guys find time to practice and record their music even with homework and curfews. In fact, the drummer had to leave the Hen House early one night because his mother wanted him home. Shotgun No Challenge is lead by Andy Chen who sings and plays guitar. Ken Sugihara provides vocals and guitar. While Daniel Ogier plays bass and Joe Herrera is on the drums. They all rock hard. The drums kick, the bass bumps and the guitars slash. It’s plain to see that these young men love playing music. Westchester, LA based Shotgun No Challenge’s slogan is “westside softcore established 2001.” This band plans on taking their music to the top. Their next stop is the Sunset Strip.

Ray of The Wine’s blend of Persian, Moroccan, African, Indian and Western music is at once earthy, mystical and seductive, as traditional rigor meets improvisational freedom and complex, passionate melodies couple with relentless grooves. Reza is a master of traditional Persian stringed instruments like the Tar, Sehtar and the bowed Tarmanche and Kamanche, as well as the bamboo flute known as the Ney and the Daf, a hand drum. The CD was produced by The Door’s drummer John Densmore, who also played drums, and features a stellar international ensemble of players. The group recently performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC.

Old friends Gene Bowen and John Densmore recently joined forces to lay down a few songs at The Hen House. Bowen had written the songs many years ago and was very excited to finally bring them to life. With Densmore, formerly of The Doors, on the drums, Jimmy Hazz on the bass and Art Ellis on the soprano saxophone, Bowen had all the necessary pieces in place to create three classic songs. Bowen plays the guitar as well as sings his very inspiring and thought-provoking lyrics. Their music will take you back a few decades and remind you of a time when songs were like poems, full of heart and soul. The Hen House enjoyed the journey and so will you.-Hen House Studios is a record label and documentary film company in Venice, California. Liquid Sunshine formed about five years ago in the City of Angels. Lead by the husband and wife team of Richie and Pamela Williams, this band is like a family. The musicians are good friends as well as band members. Pamela is the lead singer and she brings a beautiful voice and a strong stage presence to the group. Richie is nothing short of explosive on the drums. Ralph Rivers plays bass, Mark Harden plays guitar, James Matthews plays keyboards and rhythm guitar, and Frankie Camano plays percussion. Liquid Sunshine has all the ingredients for success. They rock hard and excite the crowd, while playing to deeply emotional melodies and lyrics. Their show is the complete concert experience. This band is the real deal.

The group Hollow Log was born when a group of old friends got together way back in 1997 in Los Angeles, California. David Markowitz plays violin, mandolin and sings. Jim Knight plays percussion. Paul Lacques plays guitar and sings. Marc Doten plays bass. And Steven Woodruff plays the accordion and sings as well. The band Hollow Log is self-described as “an all-acoustic wall of hillbilly energy, heavily seasoned with Cajun, Gypsy, and Celtic traditional music.” The five-member group has performed at events for the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and KCET-TV. Hollow Log has a sound that’s all their own. It’s too hard to really categorize, so you better heard it for yourself. You’ll be happy that you did.

Cattywompus formed in Los Angeles in the year 2000 out of a pure love of music and its ability to stir emotion in the minds of the audience. Lead by frontman Neeatz and anchored by the seamless rhythm team of brothers, bassist James Webber and drummer John Webber (known as the “Bro Shaq Style”), the Cattywompus lineup represents a diverse set of influences that unite in one, multi-dimensional sound. With Aaron Bateman’s lead guitar and The Witch Doc’s percussion, Cattywompus applies a sense of classic funk rock to a fresh, progressive movement that is soulful, powerful and original. After the release of their five-song EP, entitled “Backwards Evolution”, Cattywompus has gained significant notoriety in the Los Angeles music scene and beyond. Cattywompus has found their fit in the underground music scene with bands such as Weapon of Choice, Fishbone, Trulio Disgracias, Orgone, Jabudah and Poopan. Now residing on the sun-splashed beaches of Los Angeles, the band is in pre-production working on tracks for their first full length album of original groove-oriented California music.-Hen House Studios is a record label and documentary film company in Venice, California.
